On A Clear Day

We had a family member who was wheelchair-bound and since the downstairs bedroom, living room, pool and kitchen are all on the same level, it was perfect for him. We all spent many contented hours, gazing out at the view at all times of the day and night. The house was clean, well-equipped, and easy to use for us, and we would recommend it for any group of friends or family who don’t mind driving the rugged hills of St. John, and being out in the natural world rather than in a resort setting and enjoy cooking at home. The best snorkeling we had on the island was right below on the right side of Francis Bay. Since several of us swim for exercise, the pool was wonderful and long enough for lap swimming. Terry and Olivier were the best property managers ever.

The villa is very well appointed. The kitchen has every tool you might need. Each bedroom has its own bathroom so everyone has their own space. If the walk back from the beach up the street and then the driveway is not enough exercise, there also is a gym in the house. Amazing zen like sunset views! Very thoughtful design and build. LOVE that there are solar panels that generate power. Rent if you can, you will NOT be disappointed.

Peaceful location with spectacular view, this home had everything we could possibly need. The kitchen was equipped to make cooking in easy. There were beach chairs, coolers, and beach bags available to use. Very clean and comfortable. Terry was amazing to work with and very responsive!! I would highly recommend this home.

...that you don't want to leave it. You know there are beautiful beaches begging to be swum in and trails to explore, but you are so comfortable on the deck, staring at the view, and popping in and out of the pool that leaving seems unnecessary. (But you should ;)

It really is a wonderful spot. This was a big change for us; in past visits to StJ we have stayed at Maho Bay Camps and Cinnamon Bay Campground, so a house was a different experience. We were looking for something within walking distance to a good beach, with a view and privacy for each party (we were a group of friends). OACD delivered.

It IS completely possible to walk to Francis Bay, although I will admit we ended up driving because the walk up is pretty darn steep for flatlanders. That said, the driveway is paved and compared to a lot of other driveways on the island, "easy". It has a lot of room to turn around at the top and no one else uses it so you don't have to worry about someone coming down.

As for the house itself, it is immaculate. I can't think of anything you would need that is not provided, and the layout gives everyone wonderful views and private space. Even the back bedroom on the second floor is spacious and faces a different but equally beautiful view. The first floor bedroom is good for those who would prefer to avoid stairs, although there are stairs to navigate getting into the house.

The Big *** Fan in the living room keeps things amazingly cool, but there are also A/C's in the bedrooms for those who like to sleep really chilly. No one used the exercise room I'm afraid - there was no energy left at day's end for that, but it was impressive.

We loved the pool and just wish we had used it more. The days just weren't long enough! There are lizards, geckos and coqui frogs in the yard to marvel at - just don't leave those doors open! ;)

We had a fantastic week staying at "On a Clear Day". The home was clean, private, comfortable, and well stocked with everything that we needed for a very relaxing week on St John. Loved the proximity to Francis Bay which turned out to be our favorite beach of the dozen or so that we visited.

On a Clear Day is as amazing as the pictures indicate. Private, spectacular views. House is spacious, super clean and functional - all the amenities. Pool is large enough for morning swims - not just a "dip" pool. The layout of the home allows both privacy for each guest room/balcony but also central areas spacious enough for family moments. It has everything you need for fun on St. John (beach chairs, umbrellas, etc). A bit further from Cruz bay (21 mins) - but worth it if you want privacy, views of national park, 7 min walk to beach (30 sec drive to beach). Property manager Terry a total delight to work with. She anticipates everything and set up our trip for absolute success.
When our flight was delayed, she proactively made arrangements for our late arrival with Jeep rental company, etc. Our 7 person family had a wonderful stay. Note - common areas have no AC (bedrooms/workout room do) but breeze, massive ceiling fan, made it comfortable at all times. North shore location a plus. Also - Internet is awesome - we were able to video stream/conference for work with no issues. We loved On a Clear Day - will rent again.
