On A Clear Day

Our 8th villa rental and first in Frances Bay. This house and location is fantastic. The house has everything and is walkable to the beach which was great for our teens. The view and sunset is really the best we've seen there. We will be back.

The villa is very well appointed. The kitchen has every tool you might need. Each bedroom has its own bathroom so everyone has their own space. If the walk back from the beach up the street and then the driveway is not enough exercise, there also is a gym in the house. Amazing zen like sunset views! Very thoughtful design and build. LOVE that there are solar panels that generate power. Rent if you can, you will NOT be disappointed.

We had a fantastic week staying at "On a Clear Day". The home was clean, private, comfortable, and well stocked with everything that we needed for a very relaxing week on St John. Loved the proximity to Francis Bay which turned out to be our favorite beach of the dozen or so that we visited.

This is a fabulous house in a fabulous location. Period. The property management (Terry) was excellent and provided very helpful (and timely) information about the house and area. The online description matched, but pictures cannot quite capture the natural beauty - nor the quietness of the area. Our stay was an absolute delight! On that note, the house is located in a wildlife preserve which provides seclusion. As such, it is run on solar power (with a backup generator if needed), and uses rain water collection. The bedrooms each have their own A/C and are very comfortable. The main areas of the house are cooled by fans, and is all that is needed. The great room has a huge fan and makes for comfortable living. The sliding doors and screens are fantastic - we enjoyed opening them and enjoying indoor/outdoor living at its finest. An occasional insect will make it into the house based on the location, but is part of living in preserve and I imagine would be the case in every household not located in town. Francis Bay is an 11 min hike, and home to many incredible sea turtles. We usually went twice per day and always saw two, or more, turtles and other sea life. The hike back is back up about 175-200’ of elevation, which was a nice end to snorkeling - because you can simply get into the pool and enjoy the view again while cooling off. If the elevation is an issue, you can drive down to the bay but you will have deal with parking a vehicle. We hope to stay at On A Clear Day next year!

On a Clear Day is as amazing as the pictures indicate. Private, spectacular views. House is spacious, super clean and functional - all the amenities. Pool is large enough for morning swims - not just a "dip" pool. The layout of the home allows both privacy for each guest room/balcony but also central areas spacious enough for family moments. It has everything you need for fun on St. John (beach chairs, umbrellas, etc). A bit further from Cruz bay (21 mins) - but worth it if you want privacy, views of national park, 7 min walk to beach (30 sec drive to beach). Property manager Terry a total delight to work with. She anticipates everything and set up our trip for absolute success.
When our flight was delayed, she proactively made arrangements for our late arrival with Jeep rental company, etc. Our 7 person family had a wonderful stay. Note - common areas have no AC (bedrooms/workout room do) but breeze, massive ceiling fan, made it comfortable at all times. North shore location a plus. Also - Internet is awesome - we were able to video stream/conference for work with no issues. We loved On a Clear Day - will rent again.

We had a family member who was wheelchair-bound and since the downstairs bedroom, living room, pool and kitchen are all on the same level, it was perfect for him. We all spent many contented hours, gazing out at the view at all times of the day and night. The house was clean, well-equipped, and easy to use for us, and we would recommend it for any group of friends or family who don’t mind driving the rugged hills of St. John, and being out in the natural world rather than in a resort setting and enjoy cooking at home. The best snorkeling we had on the island was right below on the right side of Francis Bay. Since several of us swim for exercise, the pool was wonderful and long enough for lap swimming. Terry and Olivier were the best property managers ever.
