Cheeseburgers In Paradise

It’s no wonder the Caribbean inspired Jimmy Buffett to write a song about cheeseburgers in paradise. A big, fat juicy burger just seems to taste better surrounded by salty air and sandy feet! More than a dozen eateries on St. John feature burgers on the menu, and here are a few of our favorites:
Joe’s Rum Hut
Got a craving for a Big Mac? Joe’s famous version, called the Big G, is darn close to the original. Some say even better. You know the drill: Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions served on a homemade bun. Your only dilemma may be whether to order a side of house made creamy potato salad or hand cut fries.
Skinny Legs
A local favorite, Skinny’s is an affordable bar and grill in Coral Bay famous for half-pounders served up on homemade buns. Aside from the standard dressing, you can customize with delectable choices such as blue cheese, feta, chili, grilled onion, mushrooms or bacon. Throw in a side of chips and a pickle, all for $10-14.
Woody’s Seafood Saloon
Grab a seat at this iconic streetside bar and watch Cruz Bay come alive. Woody’s old-fashioned burgers are served up diner-style in a basket with curly fries. If you are in a hurry, call ahead and pick up from the express window reminiscent of a drive-thru window.
Aqua Bistro
Try a casual but elegant outdoor courtyard table in Coral Bay. This half-pound grilled goodness is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. Add Swiss, cheddar, bleu cheese or bacon and throw in some thin cut fries for only $12.
Across the Street
Across the Street claims to ‘Change your life’ with their Build-A-Burger Workshop. Customize with some unusual choices such as peanut butter, jalapenos, caramelized onion and crab dip to top your favorite burger at this family-friendly grill just 50 yards from the ferry dock.
Whether you like yours like Mr. Buffett (with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and French fried potatoes) or a bit less traditional, you’re sure to find it among more than 20 establishments on island. It’s sure to go down even better with your favorite cocktail or a good ol’ cold draft beer.
