St. John USVI Travel Hacks for a Stress-Free Vacation

No matter whether you are a detailed planner or you just wing it, our list of travel hacks will ensure a stress-free St. John vacation. Let’s dive in!
Flying
Before selecting your seat, check Seat Guru for a seat map to optimize your choice. For peace and quiet, sit near the front. Best seat for sleeping, choose a window seat. Need extra legroom? Exit and bulkhead rows are best. If you’re prone to motion sickness, seats over the wing tend to have less turbulence.
Is your flight on time? Has your connecting gate changed? How much longer until you land? Where to eat or rest on your layover? Flightaware provides all things aviation, and best of all, it’s free.
Matrix Airfare is a tool that compares prices without third party influences. It allows you to check alternative airports, multiple destinations and choose the number of layovers you’re willing to accept.
Packing
Pill boxes and bottles aren’t just for meds. They also serve as organized space savers for small items like jewelry, accessories, Q-tips, ear buds and more.
Connections St. John offers several ways for you to travel light. Skip the baggage line and ship bulky and excess items ahead for pick up or store your luggage here for a nominal fee. Connections has two convenient locations, just down the street from the ferry dock and in Coral Bay.
If you are packing anything that should be handled with care, mark your luggage with fragile tags. Those bags are typically the first ones off the plane as well.
Line your beach tote, backpack and suitcase with trash bags. If something leaks, your gear is protected. And you’ll always have an extra bag if needed.

Planning
Log important contact info and travel plans in Google Docs or another shared platform that can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. Share and update the document in real time with travel partners. In addition, create a trip folder in Google Photos for all parties to upload and share pictures.
There are currently two ferry options from St. Thomas, one in Red Hook and one near the airport in Crown Bay. Decide which one gets you to St. John faster based on your arrival time.
Skip the grocery shopping and arrive to a fully-stocked kitchen by contacting Landlubber Logistics. They also offer restaurant take out deliveries for those nights you would rather not cook or leave your villa.
Check your cell phone plan before departing. Depending on the company, some areas of St. John may cause roaming charges unless you have an international or global plan.
Sign up to receive the local eNewsletter from News of St. John for exclusive coupons for activities, boat charters and restaurants on island.
