What not to Pack for Your St. John Vacation
There’s no shortage of vacation packing lists on the internet (including one of our most popular blog posts), but let’s take it a step further and suggest what NOT to pack on your next St. John vacation.
If you are already one of those master packers who can live out of a carry on or backpack, kudos to you! It’s doable, do it once and you’ll never go back to waiting in baggage claim or dragging bulky suitcases full of things you probably won’t need.
Our goal is to make your vacation stress free and comfortable so we intentionally stock our luxury villas with the essentials. The rest can be found at the local grocery store or pharmacy upon arrival.
Let’s lighten the load and start by listing what we provide for your convenience.
• Bath linens
• Beach towels
• Beach chairs
• Beach bags and coolers
• Hair dryer
• Toiletries
• Washer and dryer
• Internet access
• Cable/Dish TV
• Gas grill
• Coffee maker
• Safe for valuables
• Most villas have extra sunscreen, bug spray and board games handy as well
Since our weather stays at a balmy 80 to 85 nearly year-round, that makes packing light super easy. Here are some things to leave at home.
• An outfit for every day: Mix and match and use the washer/dryers provided if needed.
• Fancy Clothes/Accessories: Remember, you’re on laid back St. John, not St. Barts.
• Uncomfortable/Impractical Shoes: See above.
• Heavy Cosmetics/Hair Products/Toiletries: Embrace the island life where sun kissed and minimalism rules.
• Denim or other heavy fabrics: Keep it layered and light.
• Gadgets: Limit to only what you need besides your smartphone.
• Umbrella/Rain Gear: Heavy or extended rain is rare on St. John. Our occasional showers are liquid sunshine and is a much needed relief from the heat of the day. Go with it!
• Perfume/Cologne: Known to attract no see-ums, leave fragrances at home.
• Food: Other than flight snacks, consider saving space and supporting the local economy.
There you have it. If in doubt, remember the traveler’s rule of thumb: Pack twice the money and half the clothes!
