3 of the Best Places to Go Before the Beach

Since our world class beaches are St. John’s claim to fame, you will undoubtedly be spending some quality time exploring them. We all know that food magically tastes better when you’ve just taken a swim so where do you go for the best picnic grub?
There are a number of eateries on our island but a few favorites come to mind when it’s grab and go time. Here are our recommendations for beach-friendly fare.
North Shore Deli
Not only is it conveniently located on your way to the North Shore in Mongoose Junction, it’s also open for breakfast if you’re an early riser. You can’t go wrong with any of their sandwiches, just know the pastrami is a local favorite. All meat is roasted and smoked in-house and gluten-free bread is available. Oh, and the baked goods! The coconut crack bars are a must.
Sam & Jack’s Deli
Any of the 15 giant sized sandwiches (which can also be made as wraps) should be accompanied by their house-made chips and pickles. Seriously, their wraps are often large enough to serve two! Kick it up a notch with toppings like cranberry-walnut aioli, roasted red peppers and spicy Cajun remoulade. You’ll find this gem on the third floor of The Marketplace.
Pickles In Paradise
If you’re closer to Coral Bay, head over to Pickles for a club sandwich, a Cuban pork panini or a grilled teriyaki chicken wrap. Good luck trying to resist the homemade banana bread, cookies and muffins. Don’t be surprised if you’re joined by the four-legged locals as this is also a popular hangout for goats, sheep and donkeys!
