Pack like a Pro: St. John Packing Checklist

The St. John vibe is casual and relaxed, so your provisions should be too. No need for fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, and you definitely don’t need to overpack. Besides, you’ll want to leave room for those one-of-a-kind souvenirs to remind you of the best vacation you ever had!

We’re going to simplify your life with a packing checklist any minimalist would envy. First, let’s talk about what you don’t need to bring. For your convenience, our villas are fully stocked with bed and bath linens, beach towels and chairs, beach bags and coolers, hair dryers and coffee makers. You will also have access to a washer and dryer to freshen up and reuse outfits if necessary.

Here are our suggestions for packing light so you’ll be ready to hit the beach upon arrival

1. Travel documents, including a passport if you plan to leave U.S. territory

2. Camera (and underwater camera if you have one)

3. Cell phone and charger

4. Prescription medication

5. Bathing suit and cover up (It’s customary to cover up unless on the beach.)

6. Lightweight, moisture wicking shorts and shirts (mix and match)

7. Flat, comfortable shoes and/or flip flops

8. Lightweight, durable shoes and/or water shoes for hiking

9. Waterproof bag (a must for boating excursions)

10. Sun protection (sunscreen, hat or visor, sunglasses, rash guard, lip balm with SPF)

11. Snorkel gear (or rent from one of our shops)

12. Toiletries (or purchase at our local drug store)

13. Underclothes and sleepwear

Bonus Tips

1. Leave the fancy clothes, heels and jewelry at home.

2. Keep your credit cards, cash, medicine and passport on you while traveling.

3. Include your contact information on the inside as well as the outside of all bags.

4. Bring an insulated travel cup or Hydroflask to keep beverages cold. (You can carry beverages everywhere on St. John.)

5. Beach or tote bags double as carryons.

6. For women, sarongs dry much faster than a bulky beach towel.

7. Ziplocs work perfectly to protect electronics in your beach bag.

8. Keep an extra copy of your passport safely in your villa in case it’s lost or stolen.

9. Expect a bit of liquid sunshine each day. Embrace it rather than pack rain gear.
