Beaches | History | Sights | St. John | St. John Facts | Restaurants | LinksUS Virgin Island Vacation: St. John BeachesA US Virgin Island vacation would not be complete without a trip (or two or three!) to one of countless spectacular beaches! From white-sand to coral, St. John beaches are among the most beautiful anywhere. While on your US Virgin Island vacation, be sure not to miss these selected beaches - many of which Catered To has a home or villa within walking distance of! Trunk Bay
St. John's most photographed beach is also the preferred spot for beginning snorkelers because of its underwater trail. There are changing rooms, a snack bar, picnic tables, a gift shop, phones, lockers, and snorkeling-equipment rentals. Caneel Bay
Caneel Bay is actually a catch-all name for seven white-sand north-shore beaches, six of which can be reached only by water if you aren't a guest at the Caneel Bay Resort. (Access to beaches is a civil right in the USVI, but access to land that leads to the beaches is not.) The seventh, Caneel Beach, is open to the public and is easy to reach from the main entrance of the resort; just ask for directions at the gatehouse. Cinnamon Bay
This long, sandy beach faces beautiful cays and abuts the national park campground. The facilities are open to the public and include cool showers, toilets, a commissary, and a restaurant. You can rent water-sports equipment here -- a good thing because there's excellent snorkeling off the point to the right. Hawk's Nest Beach Sea-grape trees line this narrow beach, and there are rest rooms, cooking grills, and a covered shed for picnicking. It's the closest beach to town, so it's often crowded. Jumbie Beach
Jumbie beach is tucked away between Hawk's Nest Bay and Trunk Bay. Walk down the stairs and find an unspoiled piece of heaven. Snorkel along the sides and feel as though you are swimming in an aquarium. This small beach is every person's dream. Lameshur BayThis nifty beach is toward the end of a very long dirt road on the southeast coast. It offers solitude, good snorkeling, and a chance to spy on some pelicans. The ruins of an old plantation are a five-minute walk down the road past the beach. Maho Bay
This popular beach is below the Maho Bay Camps -- a wonderful hillside enclave of tents. The campground offers informal talks and slide and film presentations. In spring, jazz and jungle harmonize during a music series in the outdoor pavilion. Salt Pond BayIf you're adventurous, this somewhat rocky beach on the scenic southeastern coast -- next to Coral Bay and rugged Drunk Bay -- is worth exploring. It's a short hike down a hill from the parking lot, and the only facilities are an outhouse and a few picnic tables scattered about. Take special care to leave nothing valuable in your car; reports of thefts are common. Catered To's villas are located in areas which will allow you to enjoy all the beauty and riches the island has to offer!
